Course Accreditation and Institutional Authorization
Institutional Authorization
Paris Metropolitan University operates under the French Education Act (Code de l’Éducation, Articles L 444-1 to 444-11 and R 444-1 to R 444-28), which governs private educational institutions in France.
In the French higher education system, institutions are classified as follows:
•“Sous contrat” institutions: Receive state funding, follow the national curriculum, and have government-paid teachers.
•“Hors contrat” institutions: Operate independently, receive no government funding, and are not required to follow the French national curriculum.
Paris Metropolitan University is a “hors contrat” institution, meaning:
•Its programs and diplomas are institutional awards and not equivalent to national diplomas issued by public universities.
•It delivers all programs exclusively in English and enrolls only international students outside of France.
•It seeks international accreditation and professional recognition outside of France.
Restrictions Under French Law
French education law prohibits private institutions from using the terms baccalauréat, licence, master, or doctorat for their degrees. Paris Metropolitan University fully complies with this regulation and instead uses the terms “Bachelor,” “Master,” and “Doctor” in a format authorized by the Académie de Paris.
All programs at Paris Metropolitan University are:
•Institutional diplomas and not national degrees.
•Delivered exclusively in English.
•Offered entirely through distance learning.
Transparency in Degree Recognition
French law requires private educational institutions to clearly distinguish their institutional diplomas from national diplomas to prevent misrepresentation. To ensure clarity:
•All diplomas issued by Paris Metropolitan University are strictly institutional diplomas.
•These diplomas do not grant the same legal status as national degrees from French public universities.
14. General Provisions
Paris Metropolitan University reserves the right to enforce these terms by:
•Restricting access to the website.
•Suspending user accounts.
•Pursuing legal action in cases of violations.
